The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1989. The Qatar Embassy was opened in Lima in 2012. The Peru Embassy was opened in Doha in 2011.

In 2013, the Qatari-Peruvian Parliamentary Friendship Society was inaugurated. The Society aims at enhancing the diplomatic role and strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries.
